Improvements to Puerto del a Duquesa

Those of you who have not yet managed to visit the area this year will be pleased to see that Duquesa is getting some long overdue maintenance and beautification from the powers that be in the Town hall of Manilva.

First a brief history, the Marina and Golf course areas have been a political football ever since their creation in the 1980s with the town hall insisting they are both private areas and as such would not benefit from council support so any infrastructure works in these areas have been carried out to date by the residents in these areas despite the fact that obviously Duquesa Marina is the center for tourism in this area with thousands of daily visitors using the facilities.

The current Mayor made a pledge a couple of years ago to bring these areas under council responsibility so the cost of maintenance to the public areas would be met by the local tax payers like other urban areas in the Manilva Municipality and this year just before the local election this appears to have started.

We now have not one but two fountains, one at the entrance to the Marina itself by the car park that also had new underground waste bins installed making this a nicer looking and smelling area, the second is on the newly pedestrianised street of Calle Los Arcos which was the little road between Banco Andalucia and the taxi rank leading into the upper level of the Marina, this pedestrian zone now also hosts a weekly Thursday evening market.

Hopefully we will soon see further updates and improvements to make the most of this beautiful little Marina.
